- Mirziyoyev called the start of nuclear power plant construction in Uzbekistan a historic day
On June 4, the head of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Konstantinovsky Palace near St. Petersburg, said that the day of the start of construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Uzbekistan is historic.
"Today is a historic day, <...> a hybrid station. Two small models, two large models. As you said, we've been working towards this for a long time. We talked and argued for a long time, but we came to the right decision," he said.
In addition, the head of Uzbekistan added that he expects an increase in trade turnover between Russia and Uzbekistan by the end of 2026.
"I think we'll add it again by the end of 2026, because there are major projects too. So I think our meeting will give an impetus, we have very big intentions," Mirziyoyev said.
Putin met with Mirziyoyev at the Konstantinovsky Palace near St. Petersburg on June 4. During the meeting, the Russian President thanked the head of Uzbekistan for taking the time to come to St. Petersburg.
