Lithuania is negotiating with the United States on the potential deployment of American nuclear weapons on its territory. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on June 3, citing a statement by the country's Defense Minister, Robert Kaunas.

"Discussions are ongoing. <...> Lithuania, of course, does not stand aside," the Lithuanian minister told reporters a day earlier.

The newspaper noted that Lithuania's constitution prohibits the deployment of weapons of mass destruction on its territory, but in May, President Gitanas Nauseda proposed changing it.

The Financial Times newspaper reported a day earlier that the United States is discussing the possibility of deploying nuclear weapons in additional European NATO countries using dual-purpose aircraft capable of launching nuclear strikes. The authors of the article clarify that a number of Baltic countries and the eastern flank of NATO, including Poland, are interested in the proposal to deploy aircraft.

The Russian Embassy in the United States reported on May 27 that the leaders of the European Union (EU) and NATO are trying to involve the United States in schemes of inflicting "strategic defeat" on Russia. It was noted that the West turns a blind eye to human rights violations, the deliberate extermination of the peaceful Russian population, the glorification of the Nazis and their accomplices, as well as the scale of corruption in Ukraine.
