Russian businesses need to focus on increasing labor productivity rather than seeking debt financing. This was stated by the president of Opora Russia, Alexander Kalinin, in an interview with Izvestia at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on June 3.

"Today, in order to survive, you need to think first of all about how you use labor in your company? If revenue per person is extremely low, then the first reserve is not to run to the bank for loans, but to make sure that revenue per person is significantly higher," Kalinin said.

The head of Opora Russia added that labor productivity growth requires an integrated approach and includes both managerial and technological solutions. It is not only about the implementation of lean manufacturing principles and quality management systems, but also about the use of artificial intelligence, digital services, modern promotion tools, targeted advertising and digital marketing.

Kalinin also drew attention to the fact that increasing labor productivity is already among the priorities of the federal project. However, according to him, the existing scale is not enough: the program covers about 8 thousand companies with financing of about 5 billion rubles.

According to the head of Opora Russia, a broader approach is needed to solve the problem. He believes that increasing labor productivity should turn from a separate program into a large-scale movement capable of uniting a significant part of Russian business.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on May 28 that the replacement of low-skilled personnel with artificial intelligence is irreversible and inevitable. According to him, AI is already replacing junior staff in process automation, documentation processing, and software code development.
