The Federation Council called on the UN to condemn the US pressure on Cuba
The Federation Council adopted an appeal to the United Nations, the Interparliamentary Union and the parliaments of foreign states calling on them to condemn the US pressure on Cuba and support the lifting of the blockade against the island. This became known on June 3 following the meeting.
"The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation calls <...> to condemn the unprecedented US military pressure on the Republic of Cuba, to advocate the unconditional lifting of the energy blockade," the appeal says, the broadcast of the meeting was published on the Telegram channel of the Federation Council.
In addition, the Russian senators called for the unconditional lifting of the economic, trade, financial and energy restrictions imposed by Washington against Cuba. It is noted that such actions contradict the principles of international law and the provisions of the UN Charter, as well as negatively affect the situation of Cuban citizens and the situation in the region.
On May 29, Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdez Mesa thanked Russia for oil supplies, which were carried out even under the economic blockade by the United States. According to him, this is felt by Havana at times when it continues to follow the path of its economic development complicated by Washington.
Meanwhile, on May 16, Izvestia learned from journalist Polina Alvarez how the locals live in Cuba now. She clarified that while the country's authorities are taking countermeasures to American actions, citizens are trying to adapt without losing optimism.
