An underground tunnel has been discovered in Mexico, which was used to reach the United States. This was reported on June 1 by the New York Post (NYP) newspaper, citing sources.

"The tunnel was discovered in the Nueva Tijuana area during a raid conducted by the Mexican federal authorities with the support of the Mexican Navy," the newspaper quoted the Attorney General's Office of Mexico as saying.

It is specified that the length of the underground passage, which is sheathed in wood, is about 265 m, and the depth is 6.4 m, which makes it one of the largest discoveries of cross—border tunnels in recent years. According to Mexican authorities, evidence discovered during the raid indicates that the facility could have been used as a logistics center for criminal activities, including the storage and movement of drugs, weapons and explosives.

During the search, police confiscated ammunition, mobile phones, bank cards, a digital video recorder and dozens of doses of methamphetamine, adds "Газета.Ru ".

Mexican Security Minister Omar Garcia Harfush announced on April 28 that a drug lord nicknamed the Gardener (El Hardinero) had been detained in the country, and a reward of $5 million had been promised in the United States for his capture. The detainee was listed as the regional commander of the Jalisco New Generation cartel, he controlled vast territories along the Pacific coast of Mexico.
