Individual habits play an important role in the quality of night rest, in particular, the position of the body and the speed of falling asleep. The majority of Russians (54%) prefer to fall asleep on their side, which is the most natural position for the respondents. Almost a quarter (22%) change their position depending on how they feel, another 17% sleep on their stomach and only 2% on their back. This is evidenced by the data from the ORMATEK brand study, which was reviewed by Izvestia on June 3.

However, even a favorite position does not always help to fall asleep quickly: 36% of respondents spend from 15 to 30 minutes falling asleep — this is the time interval, according to doctors, is considered optimal. One in four turns over for more than half an hour, which may already indicate insomnia. Another 24% do not have a stable sleep pattern.

Sleep problems are often associated not only with the daily routine or stress level, but also with physical discomfort during rest. The respondents identified several obstacles to falling asleep comfortably: an uncomfortable pillow hinders 34%, and a mattress hinders 28%. Also, 30% complained that they could not find the optimal temperature regime in the bedroom. Another 22% pay attention to tension in the neck or back.

"A product that has lost its shape does not ensure the correct position of the spine, and a person is forced to look for a foothold. Hence, there may be morning discomfort, which the participants of our survey complain about," explained Olesya Solodkova, category manager for mattresses of the ORMATEK brand.

However, the problem is not limited to this.: 14% of respondents admitted that it is not their body discomfort that prevents them from falling asleep, but their partner. Russians complain that bedmates take up too much space, jostle and even steal a blanket.

As a result, only 24% of respondents sleep through the night without waking up, and 38% have intermittent sleep, although they manage to fall asleep again quickly. But already one in six (16%) wakes up and then cannot fall asleep again for a long time.

Moreover, 22% of the respondents said that they regularly wake up with a feeling of discomfort in their neck or back, and 18% feel exhausted even after a long sleep. At the same time, 38% of respondents admit that they always notice a difference in the quality of rest depending on the pillow and mattress, especially when they have to sleep outside the house.

Natalia Zolotareva, a somnologist at the SM Clinic, told Izvestia on May 6 that after a nap, instead of being cheerful, sometimes a feeling of weakness and fatigue comes. According to her, the feeling of fatigue after sleeping during the day is most often associated with the peculiarities of sleep phases and the moment at which a person wakes up. One of the key reasons is the transition into the deep stages of sleep.
