Israel must stop attacks on Lebanon after negotiations mediated by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This was announced on June 1 by Axios portal journalist Barak Ravid.

"Rubio has been in contact with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu for the past 48 hours, trying to promote a new ceasefire initiative," Ravid wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to the plan proposed by Washington, at the first stage, Hezbollah should stop attacks on Israel, and the Israeli side should abandon the expansion of the military operation, including strikes on Beirut. According to the journalist, such a step could create conditions for a gradual cessation of hostilities.

At the same time, the American official Ravidu said that attempts to coordinate the initiative have not yet yielded results. According to him, the position of the chairman of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, who conducts contacts on behalf of Hezbollah, did not allow progress towards an agreement.

On the same day, The Jerusalem Post newspaper added that Israeli officials had asked Washington to approve the expansion of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) operations in Beirut. According to sources, Israel expects a positive reaction from the United States, given the lack of significant progress.

On May 31, Netanyahu instructed the Israeli army to expand the operation against Hezbollah and strengthen control over the movement's territories. He also said that over the past month, the Israeli military has killed 700 Hezbollah soldiers. Later, the Ministry of Health of the republic reported that as a result of Israeli strikes on Lebanon since March 2, the number of victims has increased to 3,412 people.
