The State Duma responded to Zelensky's threats to strike at Belarus
Threats by the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, to strike at Belarus only escalate the situation and may turn against Kiev. Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma's defense committee, expressed this opinion on Wednesday, May 27.
"He is weak in the knees to strike at Belarus. Moreover, there are weapons in Belarus now that the West is afraid of until it turns blue, not excluding the Hazel," he said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
According to the parliamentarian, the Belarusian special services will learn about possible threats in advance.
"With his ill—considered, stupid statements, he makes us quite seriously wary. <...> His first threat is towards Ukraine itself, which will eventually suffer," the politician concluded.
Zelensky said on May 21 that Belarus should be aware of the consequences of allegedly preparing aggressive actions against Ukraine. On the same day, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said that in the event of an attack on the republic, the country would not stand on ceremony.
Lukashenko stressed that he has learned how to respond to blackmail and intimidation, and when he hears relevant statements from Kiev, he wonders why Zelensky is acting in this way.
Junge Welt magazine reported on May 26 that Zelensky's statements about the alleged preparation of a military conflict by Belarus have no basis and are not supported by evidence. At the same time, it is noted that the words of the politician are refuted by the Ukrainian border guards themselves, who found no evidence of preparation for the conflict that Zelensky is talking about.
