Erdogan called on Muslims around the world to teach Netanyahu a lesson
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on May 27 that Muslims around the world need to unite, and also expressed the hope that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would receive a well-deserved lesson.
He voiced the relevant appeals in a congratulatory message to his co—religionists on one of the main holidays for Muslims - Eid al-Adha. In the text, he singled out the residents of the Gaza Strip, to whom he conveyed solidarity from himself and his people.
"To all our brothers and sisters who celebrate this holiday with sadness, pain and deep sorrow in different corners of our spiritual geography, especially in Gaza, I convey my strongest messages. <...> I believe that <...> Netanyahu will learn a well—deserved lesson from the Muslims of the world," the Turkish leader quoted the agency as saying. Anadolu.
Erdogan stressed that the holidays are a time of love, respect, unity and solidarity. According to him, the tragic events in Gaza and events throughout the Middle East are now "casting a shadow" over this time.
On April 13, Erdogan, speaking at the International Conference of Asian Political Parties in Istanbul, did not rule out that his state could go to war against Israel in order to protect the Palestinians from forced resettlement.
Almost a month earlier, on March 11, the Turkish president called Netanyahu the greatest catastrophe for Israel since the Holocaust. He made this statement with reference to the Israelis themselves. Erdogan called Turkish-Israeli relations extremely tense due to the situation in the Gaza Strip.
