A LEOPARD squad to fight drones will be created in the Kherson region
A new volunteer unit of the country's Combat Army Reserve (BARS) will be formed in the Kherson region to repel drone attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on May 26 by the governor of the region, Vladimir Saldo.
According to him, the authorities are combining the efforts of the military, civilian departments and volunteer units. The number of volunteers is planned to increase.
"I take this opportunity to invite you to join the newly created LEOPARD squad, another one in the territory of the Kherson region, which will be equipped with all those anti—drone systems to protect our communications and our critical infrastructure facilities," he said.
The squad will specialize in fighting in the "small sky". These measures are designed to ensure the safety of roads, including the land corridor to Crimea. Saldo recalled that on May 18, a man was injured as a result of drone strikes on tanker trucks on the highway.
The governor also noted that new technical means have already been deployed for the military, which will make it possible to shoot down UAVs more effectively and prevent them from approaching important facilities.
On May 8, Dmitry Makhonin, the Governor of the Perm Territory, announced that a regional unit of the LEOPARD for countering drones would be created in the region. He also pointed to the willingness of local enterprises to expand measures to protect against drones. According to Makhonin, most of the strategic corporations have already deployed forces of mobile firing groups.
