The assault units of the Russian army have begun to master new tactics for interacting with drones and ground-based robotic platforms. During training, drones conduct reconnaissance and correct fire, and unmanned systems with heavy weapons support infantry when attacking fortified positions. According to experts, such a scheme will reduce losses and increase the effectiveness of offensive actions.

The training grounds are used for conducting combat in a single circuit. The main purpose of the classes is to teach infantry, UAV operators and ground—based robotic systems crews to act as harmoniously as possible and complement each other. The work of the equipment and assault groups is coordinated from a single center, sources familiar with the situation told Izvestia.

The roles between the participants of the assault are strictly distributed. UAV operators conduct reconnaissance, identify targets and launch air strikes. Ground-based robotic complexes (NRTKS), armed with small arms and grenade launchers, should suppress firing points and clear the way for assault groups. After that, the fighters come on the attack.

The armament of the NRTC may vary depending on the task at hand. The platforms are capable of carrying the AGS-17 Flame automatic grenade launcher, the Utes heavy machine gun, the 7.62 mm PKT machine gun, and, if necessary, minesweepers.

Their radio control system is protected from the effects of enemy electronic warfare systems. The basic communication range is more than 2 km, and with an additional relay antenna, it increases to 20 km.

During the training, military personnel also improve their offensive combat skills in various terrain conditions, study tactical medicine, engineering, and anti-drone techniques.

After completing the course, the fighters will be sent to units performing tasks in the zone of a special military operation, the interlocutors of the publication noted.

UAVs and ground-based robotic systems are already interacting with infantry units on the battlefield, military expert Vasily Dandykin told Izvestia.

"During the special military operation, tremendous experience was gained, which was systematized in order to develop new principles of warfare," he said. — It is obvious that during the assault it is possible to reduce losses by using drones. UAVs will help to detect and destroy firing points, but, what is also important, to coordinate the actions of the infantry during the attack. Ground vehicles with heavy anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM), grenade launchers and heavy rifle systems will have to finally suppress organized enemy resistance and cut off a possible reinforcement approach.

The expert recalled that the assault groups are also supported by artillery and tanks operating from closed positions, and UAVs correct their fire. Assault battles take place at short distances, and in this case it is very important not to cover your own with fire, he noted.

The new firing circuit will significantly increase the effectiveness of assault units, said military expert Yuri Lyamin.

"The fighters going on the attack actually get at their disposal a firing group with heavy small arms, grenade launchers and, if necessary, with flamethrowers and ATGMs," he said. — It is impossible for a soldier to go on the attack, firing from a large-caliber machine gun or AGS, which weigh several tens of kilograms. Now a robot can do it. Moreover, dagger fire from close range will be as effective and deadly as possible for the enemy.

The increased firepower will help reduce the number of people involved in the assault. In addition, fewer people will now be able to control a much larger area, Yuri Lyamin noted.

Another important function is the delivery of ammunition, medicines, food and other important supplies to assault units, which can be handled by both UAVs and ground—based drones.

Do not forget about the evacuation of the wounded — the NRTC can take a temporarily disabled fighter out of the most dangerous point without exposing his comrades to additional risk, Yuri Lyamin noted.

"As a result, airborne and ground—based robotic technology will reduce losses," Vasily Dandykin is confident.

Clear the way

Ground-based drones were taught to clear the way for attack aircraft, using trawls to make passages in minefields, Izvestia wrote.

Roller trawls cause the detonation of mines by pressure on the ground, and electromagnetic trawls create a field that initiates the operation of magnetic fuses.

To work with debris, drones are equipped with a blade, which allows them to act as engineering barrier vehicles, but with greater maneuverability and the ability to work in hard-to-reach places. Operators control them remotely, which reduces risks for personnel. Ground-based drones have already proven themselves in combat conditions and can become a worthy alternative to heavy military and engineering equipment in solving many tasks. In the future, their role in engineering tasks will only increase.
