- Footage of the college situation in Starobilsk after the Ukrainian Armed Forces strike has been published
The situation at the college in Starobilsk in the Luhansk People's Republic (LNR) after the strike of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) was shown on May 23 by Izvestia correspondent Egor Kildibekov.
"While Latvia's representatives at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) are calling this a fake and a provocation by the Kremlin, rescuers are not up to loud statements. They have been working all night and right now they are continuing to work at the site of the terrorist attack," the correspondent said.
He added that as long as there is hope that there are still living people under the rubble, work will continue.
On May 22, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the academic building and the dormitory of the Starobilsk College. At the time of the impact, 86 children aged 14 to 18 were there. A criminal case was opened into the Ukrainian attack on the college facilities in accordance with Part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act"). As a result of the incident, the five-storey dormitory building collapsed all the way to the second floor.
Russia's permanent representative to the UN Security Council, Vasily Nebenzia, said that the shelling was deliberate, explaining that the strike was carried out at night when the building was full. He confirmed that as of three o'clock in the afternoon, six people were killed, more than 40 children were injured in various degrees of severity, some are in critical condition in hospital, this figure may grow. Nebenzia added that the Russian side is calling on international structures to condemn Kiev's strike on the dormitory.
