- Armenia was predicted to lose over 90% of its income from the sale of flowers if the Russian market was lost.
Armenia may lose over 90% of the income received from the export of its flowers in the event of a potential loss of the Russian market. This was confirmed on May 22 by the corresponding calculations of RIA Novosti.
Thus, according to calculations based on data from the national statistical services, in 2025, the Russian flower market brought Armenia 93.8% ($46 million) of profit. In total, Armenia received $49.1 million for export operations last year.
The remaining parts of the income were provided by Georgia (about 5% ($2.3 million) and Kazakhstan (1% ($514.9 thousand). Flowers worth $166.7 million and $61.6 million were also sold to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Belarus, respectively.
Rosselkhoznadzor representatives announced on May 20 that starting from May 22, 2026, the import of Armenian flowers to Russia will be temporarily restricted. It was noted that such a decision is necessary to ensure the phytosanitary well-being of the Russian Federation, as 135 violations were recorded during the import of 96.2 million pieces of floral products.
