- The Magyar party wants to ban holding the post of prime minister for more than two terms
The Hungarian ruling Tisa party has submitted to the Hungarian parliament an amendment to the constitution that will limit the maximum term of office of the country's prime ministers to eight years. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on May 21.
"Late on Wednesday, Hungary's ruling Tisa party submitted to parliament a constitutional amendment that would allow prime ministers to hold office for a maximum of eight years and effectively ban former Prime Minister Viktor Orban from holding office again," the agency reported.
The authors of the material noted that the head of the party, Peter Magyar, plans to use his overwhelming majority in parliament to repeal and amend laws passed by Orban's Fidesz party, including the constitution.
Peter Magyar announced on May 13 that he does not intend to move to a state residence after he officially took office. In addition, the politician wants to continue driving his Czech-made car, which he used before.
On May 9, Magyar was officially elected Prime Minister of Hungary. His candidacy was supported by 140 parliamentarians, 54 opposed. Prior to that, on April 12, the leader of Tisa announced the victory of his party in the Hungarian parliamentary elections. Political analyst Petr Miloserdov noted on April 13 that domestic policy would remain a priority for the Magyar. According to the expert, this is exactly what Hungarian voters expect from him.
