Ryabkov pointed to the growing risks of a "head-on clash" between NATO and Russia.
The strategic risks of a "head-on collision" between NATO and Russia are increasing, and its consequences will be catastrophic. This was announced on May 19 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
"As a result of such an escalation of tension, including openly provocative actions in the nuclear sphere, strategic risks and the danger of a head—on clash between NATO and our country with all the potentially catastrophic consequences are increasing," he said in an interview with TASS.
The Deputy Foreign Minister also noted that the narrative of the "growing Russian threat", recently spread in the European Union (EU), only fuels the situation. According to him, the EU has been preparing for a "high-intensity" war with Moscow for a long time.
On the same day, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) announced that Ukraine was planning to launch unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from the Baltic states, demonstrating its "combat capability" to the West. According to the ministry, military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's unmanned systems have already been sent to Latvia. The SVR pointed out that the Kiev regime aims by all means to demonstrate to its patrons in Europe the preservation of the "combat potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine" and their ability to damage the Russian economy.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budris said on May 11 that it was necessary to return to the policy of pressure on Moscow. Later, on May 18, he called on NATO to demonstrate its readiness for military pressure on the Kaliningrad region. The Lithuanian Foreign Minister also noted that the Baltic states should not perceive Russia as a threat capable of quickly changing the situation in the region.
On May 19, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called Lithuania's threats of an attack on Kaliningrad suicidal paranoia.
