The General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), Chairman of the state Affairs of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, announced his intention to turn the country's border with South Korea into an impregnable fortress. He stated this on May 17 at a meeting with the commanders of divisions and brigades of the army.

"In particular, he touched upon our party's policy of defending the territory, aimed at strengthening parts of the front line guarding the southern border and turning the border line into an impregnable fortress," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted Kim Jong-un as saying.

The leader of the DPRK announced his intention to review the organization of army units and strengthen the border troops on the border with South Korea, increasing their military-technical level.

KCNA reported on May 15 that Kim Jong-un met with participants of the IX Congress of the United Trade Unions of Korea. The leader of the DPRK noted the great progress that has been achieved since the previous VIII Congress of trade Unions.
