Israel's second secret military base discovered in western Iraq

For more than a year, Iraq has secretly provided its territory for the establishment of two Israeli military bases. This was reported on May 17 by The New York Times, citing sources.

"For more than a year, Iraq served as a site for two secret bases periodically operated by the hostile state of Israel. <...> According to senior Iraqi and regional officials, Israel used the base there to support its military operations against Baghdad's regional partner, Iran," the publication says.

According to two Iraqi security officials, Washington forced Iraq to turn off its radars to protect American aircraft, which allowed Israel, under U.S. auspices, to secretly deploy a military facility in Iraq that Baghdad allegedly did not know about.

It is noted that the classified object was accidentally found by a shepherd who was on his way to the nearest town to buy groceries. He immediately reported the discovery to law enforcement agencies, after which, according to eyewitnesses, a military helicopter began chasing him, which "riddled his car" and eventually killed a bystander.

The Wall Street Journal reported on May 10 that the Israeli authorities had set up a secret military base in the desert in Iraq to launch airstrikes against Iran. According to the newspaper's interlocutors, the Israeli army has built a facility to house special forces. The base also serves as a logistics center for the country's air force. Sources claim that the object appeared shortly before the outbreak of hostilities against Iran. WSJ sources added that the secret facility in the Iraqi desert was almost discovered in March of this year.
