Iran does not trust the United States in its promises of a relative peaceful settlement when the United States has no reason to distrust Iran. This was stated on May 15 by the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Abbas Araqchi, speaking at a press conference of the summit of the foreign ministers of the BRICS countries.

"Iran does not trust the United States, so everything should be clear and understandable before the agreement. The United States has no reason not to trust Iran <...> What the Americans could not achieve militarily, they will not be able to get at the negotiating table. Only negotiations and diplomacy are solutions beneficial for both sides," SNN TV quoted him as saying on its Telegram channel.

Araqchi added that the United States is still an aggressor and a source of threat in the region. He stated that Iran considers the Strait of Hormuz to be open to all except the aggressor countries. However, he confirmed the presence of mines in the area and called on all countries interested in shipping to coordinate their movements with the Islamic Republic in order to avoid accidents.

Earlier in the day, the Iranian Mehr News agency reported that the US authorities rejected Iran's plan for a possible settlement of the conflict, consisting of 14 points. According to the agency, the Iranian side's proposal was based on a two-stage negotiation process. The first stage involves the end of hostilities. The second stage, if Tehran's conditions are met, implies the start of negotiations on the nuclear issue.

The Fars news agency reported on May 12 that Iran had put forward five demands to the United States necessary for the resumption of the negotiation process to resolve the conflict. It was clarified that the demands include: "ending the war on all fronts, especially in Lebanon," "lifting anti-Iranian sanctions," "unblocking Iranian funds," "compensation for damage caused by the war," and "recognition of Iran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz."

At the same time, the American leader Donald Trump noted that he wanted to conclude a good deal with Iran and was waiting for the situation to develop further.
