It is reasonable to combine the preparation of a car for the summer with an oil and filter change, even if, formally, several thousand kilometers remain before the scheduled replacement. Nikita Rodionov, technical director of the international franchise network of car service centers, told Izvestia on May 13.

The engine is the most expensive unit in a car, and in summer it operates in conditions of elevated temperatures and long runs, which increases the requirements for lubrication and cooling, the expert pointed out. In winter, due to regular cold starts and short trips, moisture, fuel fractions and acids accumulate in engine oil, which accelerates the consumption of additives and reduces the detergent, anti‑corrosion and anti-wear properties of the liquid.

"For cars that travel a lot around the city or are not always sure of the quality of fuel, preventive cleaning of the fuel injectors and throttle assembly will be an additional advantage — the procedure is advisable for symptoms of unstable idling, increased fuel consumption or mileage over 60-80 thousand km without cleaning. It helps to restore the spray torch and stable idle operation. For direct injection engines, cleaning the intake valves from carbon deposits requires a separate mechanical or chemical procedure," said Rodionov.

It is also useful to carry out computer diagnostics of the engine — to count the errors of the control unit, to evaluate the operation of sensors and injection systems. This allows us to track the early stages of problems with ignition, detonation, EGR systems and the catalytic converter, the specialist added.
