Fighter jets of the Polish Air Force (VVS) on duty were lifted into the air amid reports of alleged Russian activity in Ukraine. This was announced on May 13 by the operational command of the branches of the Polish Armed Forces.

"Polish and allied aircraft have begun operating in our airspace," the ministry said in a statement on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to the command, in addition to the fighters, a Polish Air Force helicopter was lifted into the air. The ministry stressed that they had mobilized all the necessary forces and resources at the disposal of the service.

"The ground—based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have been put on maximum alert," the operational command said.

On May 7, the Romanian Ministry of Defense reported that the country's air forces had lifted off two F-16 fighter jets after detecting a drone entering the country's airspace near the city of Kilia near the Ukrainian border. It was noted that ground-based radars observed the drone's presence in the national airspace for a fairly short time.
