There were 826 road accidents in Russia during the second May weekend and holidays

Over the past weekend and holidays (May 9-11), 826 accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 96 people were killed and 986 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on May 12 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

34 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, 44 more road users, including four children, required medical assistance. The reason for 13 bus accidents was traffic violations by their drivers.

As a result of 136 accidents, 36 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 97 outside their area of operation, 10 pedestrians were killed, and 128 more were injured in various degrees of severity. There are 49 child pedestrians among the injured, 35 of them were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated places.

In addition, 159 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 176 young road users were injured, including 64 passengers and 23 motor transport drivers. Seven children were killed, four of whom were passengers in vehicles, one was a driver and another was a pedestrian.

So, in the Leningrad Region, in the afternoon, on 55 km of the Kempolovo—Gubanitsy—Kalitino—Vyrasno—Shapki regional highway, a 39—year-old motorcycle driver who did not have a driver's license ran over a 10-year-old cyclist who was crossing the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing without dismounting from his bike. After the collision, the motorcycle left the roadway and hit a power line pole. As a result of the accident, a minor cyclist and a motorcycle driver were killed.

In the Omsk region, in the afternoon, on 519 km of the federal highway R-402, a 38-year-old school bus driver carrying 14 passengers, including eight minors, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a truck moving in the opposite direction. The accident killed a 13-year-old bus passenger who was wearing a seat belt. The bus driver and seven passengers, six of whom are children, were injured and were hospitalized.

In one of the villages of the Republic of Dagestan, in the afternoon, a 37-year-old car driver ran over a three-year-old girl who was playing unaccompanied near a private household while performing a U-turn. The child died from his injuries at the scene. In the Perm Region, in the evening, on 9 km of the Chernushka —Emash Pavlovo highway, a 65-year-old driver of a domestic passenger car ran over an 11-year-old girl crossing the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. As a result of the accident, the minor died.

In the Kaluga region, at night on 23 km of the Kirov — Berezhki—Fominichi highway, a 22-year-old driver of a car, who was intoxicated, lost control at a bend in the road and allowed the exit from the road, after which the vehicle overturned. A 15-year-old passenger who was in the front seat without a seat belt was killed in a car accident. The driver of the car was injured and was hospitalized.

In the Kemerovo region, in the afternoon, on 84 km of the Kuzedeevo — Tashtagol highway, a 40-year-old SUV driver, while overtaking, drove into oncoming traffic in a place where such a maneuver was prohibited, and collided with a domestic passenger car, the driver of which was making a left turn. As a result of the accident, a 10-year-old passenger of the car, who was in the back seat without a seat belt, died. The driver of the domestic car and another minor were injured and were hospitalized.

In the Udmurt Republic, in the early morning on 241 km of the Kostroma — Sharya — Kirov —Perm highway, the entrance to Izhevsk, an 18-year-old driver of a passenger car, who did not have a driver's license and was intoxicated, lost control and drove off the road, after which he ran into forest plantations. After the accident, the young man fled the scene, but was subsequently identified by police officers. As a result of the car accident, a 15-year-old passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene before the ambulance arrived. Another passenger was injured and was hospitalized.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged drivers to strictly follow the rules of the road, choose a safe speed and avoid risky maneuvers, especially when entering the oncoming lane. Driving under the influence of alcohol is unacceptable and often leads to tragic consequences, the department noted.

"Special attention should be paid to the safety of children. Parents need to constantly monitor the leisure time of minors, exclude the possibility of their being near unaccompanied roads, and also prevent teenagers from accessing car keys and motor vehicles. In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminds us of the need for mandatory use of seat belts by everyone in the vehicle, regardless of the distance of the trip and the passenger's location," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

On that day, it was reported that on May 12, a decree came into force changing the procedure for conducting and passing driver's license exams. In particular, the deadlines during which graduates of driving schools are allowed to take driving license exams have changed.
