The State Duma warned about the scheme of fraudsters with the delivery of goods from marketplaces

A new fraudulent scheme is spreading in Russia, in which scammers pose as employees of marketplace warehouses and extort SMS codes from citizens, ostensibly to confirm delivery. This was announced on May 11 by Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy and federal coordinator of the Digital Russia project.

"Scammers continue to exploit the theme of marketplaces, changing only the details of the legend. Now they are increasingly being represented by employees of certain "communication hubs", "logistics centers" or "warehouses", where they allegedly redirected your damaged parcel," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to the expert, the attackers are counting on the fact that the person is actually expecting an order and perceives the call as a routine delivery clarification. After that, he is asked to name the code from the SMS, ostensibly to confirm his identity.

Nemkin explained that the pretexts can be different: scammers talk about a lost, damaged or misplaced parcel. At the same time, their goal is always the same — to get a code that is an element of two-factor authentication and can give access to "Public Services", banking applications, messengers or marketplace accounts.

He reminded that SMS codes should not be shared with outsiders, no matter who they appear to be. Order information should be checked only through the official app or the service's website, and in case of a suspicious call, the conversation should be stopped immediately.

On May 9, Sergei Gavrilov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Property Issues, reported that fraudsters were calling Russians with an offer to remove the overhaul line from the payment for a fee. According to him, no federal law that would exempt all apartment owners from this line in the receipt has been adopted and is not being prepared.
