Almost half of Germans believe that the ruling coalition represented by the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) will resign before the next parliamentary elections in spring 2029. This was reported on May 8 by the ZDF TV channel with reference to a study by Forschungsgruppe Wahlen.

"Doubts are growing about the continued existence of the CDU/CSU-SPD coalition: if 66% expected the government to remain in power until the next federal election in March 2029, now this figure has fallen to 47%. 48% expect an early collapse," the article says.

According to the survey, dissatisfaction with the work of the coalition has reached its maximum: 69% of respondents rated its activities negatively, only 26% positively.

The survey was conducted from 5 to 7 May 2026 among 1,240 adult voters. The respondents were interviewed online and by phone, with a margin of error of about three percentage points.
