Latvia criticized the policy of the authorities after the fall of the Ukrainian UAV
Latvia's policy is negative for the country, but the situation can improve if the government's goal is common sense, the safety of people and the interests of its own state. Yulia Sokhina, a deputy of the Riga City Duma from the Sovereign Power party, told Izvestia on May 7.
"On the night of May 7, drones flew over Latgale again without hindrance. One of them hit the oil infrastructure facilities in Rezekne. Against the background of the current policy, this looks quite expected. Fortunately, there were no casualties this time. But people are asking themselves the question: what will happen next? Today it happened in Latgale, and tomorrow it could be any other city," said Sokhina.
According to her, the country is not getting stronger against the background of this policy: people are leaving, businesses are closing, demographics are deteriorating, and society is living in insecurity. The MP noted that peaceful existence and development are possible only if the goal of politics is common sense, the safety of people and the interests of their own country.
Earlier that day, it became known that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) crashed on the territory of an oil depot in the city of Rezekne in the eastern part of Latvia. According to Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds, according to preliminary data, drones "directed from the Ukrainian side towards Russia" could fly into the republic. According to the fire and rescue service, the fall occurred at 03:30 (local time, coincides with Moscow time). As a result, four empty tanks were damaged.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukrainian drones flying through Latvia tried to attack civilian targets in the St. Petersburg area.
