There have been 281 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 281 accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 24 people were killed and 326 injured. 22 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on May 6 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
As a result of 79 road accidents, 31 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 48 outside their area of operation, two pedestrians were killed, and 78 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 25 underage pedestrians, 10 of them were injured when crossing the roadway in designated places.
17 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 29 more road users, including two children, needed medical help. 11 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
49 accidents involving minors were also registered, in which 52 young road users were injured, including 15 passengers, one cyclist and three motor transport drivers. There are no dead children.
The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded motorists that the lives and health of their passengers depend entirely on their driving skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding driving behavior. Drivers should avoid risky driving, speeding, sudden changes of lanes, overtaking, and other dangerous maneuvers. It is important to always leave yourself a reserve of time in order to have time to adequately respond to a possible change in the traffic situation at any moment, the department noted.
The drivers' attention was also drawn to the strict observance of the rules for transporting children. In the first five days of May, 97 accidents involving underage passengers under the age of 16 occurred on Russian roads, in which four people were killed and 106 children and teenagers were injured.
In addition, there are temporary traffic closures in some regions of the country due to the ongoing spring floods. Thus, in the Republic of Dagestan and the Moscow Region, as a result of floods, sections of two highways remain flooded in each of the regions, as a result of which traffic has temporarily stopped on them so far. In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, sections of 14 regional highways have been blocked for the same reasons. Traffic on three highways has been temporarily suspended in the Republic of Bashkortostan. In the Altai Territory, flooding temporarily stopped the movement of vehicles along four highways in the region.
When planning long-distance trips, the State Traffic Inspectorate recommended that drivers and passengers monitor the weather forecast, as well as media reports from traffic closures. In case of a negative forecast or an unfavorable flood situation, it is recommended to postpone the trip to a later date until the weather conditions and traffic conditions improve. If you do have to go on the road, you should think in advance and determine possible ways to avoid problematic areas.
"In addition, we draw the attention of drivers to the need for strict compliance with traffic rules in unstable weather conditions in the first decade of May. Mixed precipitation and differences between daytime and nighttime air temperatures increase the risk of accidents on the roads. Motorists should be more careful, avoid dangerous maneuvers, observe the established speed limit, taking into account weather conditions, increase the interval and distance between vehicles," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Earlier, on April 30, it was reported that by the end of the first quarter of 2026, the number of road accidents in Moscow decreased by 16% compared to last year, and the death toll by 40%.
