US President Donald Trump's decision to cancel the deployment of long-range Tomahawk missiles in Germany has revealed Europe's lack of effective deterrence. This was announced on May 6 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

"Donald Trump's decision to cancel the planned deployment of long—range missiles in Germany has exposed the glaring fact that Europe lacks deterrence," the publication says.

It is noted that Germany and other European countries will not be able to deploy a battalion with Tomahawk cruise missiles and Dark Eagle hypersonic weapons. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius called Trump's decision extremely unfortunate and detrimental to Germany and the whole of Europe. According to him, this will only increase the gap in military potential between Europe and other powers.

The Politico newspaper noted on May 4 that Germany was counting on the deployment of American long-range missiles on its territory as part of a policy of deterring Russia, but these plans were in jeopardy due to the US decision to withdraw its troops.

Austrian geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel also noted on May 2 that the withdrawal of US troops from Germany is perceived very positively by many Germans, but Washington's decision may be a signal for Europe.
