There are concerns in the European Union (EU) that Russia is allegedly "opening a window of opportunity" in the next two years to strike at the countries of the association, due to the US withdrawal from the European security system. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on May 4.

"Something may happen very soon — Russia has a window of opportunity. <...> The United States is withdrawing from Europe, transatlantic relations are in a deplorable state, and the EU is not yet fully ready to take responsibility," Finnish politician Mika Aaltola was quoted as saying in the publication.

On April 30, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, announced that Russia had no aggressive plans towards Europe. According to him, at the same time, the rhetoric about a possible conflict with Russia is intensifying in Europe.

On March 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed to the crisis in Russia's relations with Europe. He stressed that the Russian side has never refused to restore relations.
