Buckwheat imports from Russia to Georgia increased by 44% in March

In March of this year, imports of Russian buckwheat to Georgia increased by 44% compared to the previous year. This became known on May 3 from the analysis of the National Statistics Service of Georgia.

So, over the past month, a total of 905.3 tons of cereals worth $500.8 thousand were imported. For comparison, in March last year, the Russian Federation supplied the country with 628.4 tons of buckwheat worth $ 287.2 thousand.

During the first quarter of 2026, Georgia imported 1.7 thousand tons of Russian buckwheat, which cost $922.1 thousand, TASS reports. Thus, the volume of trade increased by almost 10% compared to the period from January to March 2025.

Russia, as it became known on March 9, also increased meat imports from Brazil by more than four times and at the end of February became one of the five main buyers of meat products from this country. Based on statistics, in February 2026, Russia purchased 13.4 thousand tons of cattle meat from Brazil, which amounted to $64.8 million. This is the maximum since November last year.

As it became known on January 9, the United States increased imports of Russian sweets to record levels from 2021. According to the American statistical services, in 10 months, companies purchased caramel, chocolate and pastries from the Russian Federation for a total of $5 million, which is 13% more in annual terms and twice as much as in 2023.
