The U.S. Department of Energy is proposing to provide several million dollars in funding in the budget for the next fiscal year for the development of a new powerful anti-bunker bomb with a nuclear warhead. This was reported by the portal The War Zone (TWZ).

According to him, we are talking about the Nuclear Deterrent System-Air-delivered (NDS-A) system, designed to destroy underground bunkers and other buried objects.

According to the portal, the department is requesting $99.794 million to work on the bomb.

"NDS-A will provide the President [of the United States Donald Trump] with additional nuclear capabilities to defeat difficult and deep-underground targets. <...> The program is actively developing," the portal quotes a comment from a spokesperson for the National Nuclear Safety Administration of the U.S. Department of Energy (NNSA).

It is not specified at what stage of development this weapon is located. The publication also does not cite the possible power of the new bomb, but notes that the only B61-11 nuclear aerial bomb in service with the US Armed Forces has a warhead capacity of 340 to 400 kilotons.

Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth said at a hearing in the relevant committee of the U.S. House of Representatives on April 29 that the United States plans to modernize its nuclear triad and test nuclear weapons and delivery systems. He added that the modernization of the US nuclear triad, which includes land, air and sea nuclear forces, will take place in accordance with Trump's promise.

On October 29 last year, Trump instructed the Pentagon to begin testing nuclear weapons on an equal basis. Later, on November 12, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the resumption of nuclear testing. According to him, they will include delivery vehicles. He added that it is necessary to ensure that these systems work and are safe.
