In Dzerzhinsk, a pensioner lost 8.5 million rubles after a call from scammers
A pensioner from Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod region, lost 8.5 million rubles due to the actions of fraudsters. This was reported on May 2 in the press service of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the region.
"Unknown persons, posing as law enforcement officers, convinced a 78-year—old man that they were trying to steal money from his accounts," the department's Telegram channel says.
It is clarified that due to the instructions of the scammers, the pensioner withdrew cash and borrowed money from relatives, after which he transferred it to "secure accounts". A criminal case was opened into the incident.
On April 29, it became known about a new fraud scheme in which attackers, posing as the leaders of future victims, create fake work chats in messengers and add the user and his colleagues there. It is noted that in the correspondence they propose to undergo a "digitalization of work experience" to confirm personal data and gain access to "Public Services".
