A summer tire loses its properties at low temperatures, even if there is no ice on the road. Konstantin Ershov, an auto expert and technical specialist at ROSSKO, told about this on Wednesday, April 29.

"At temperatures below 5 degrees, the rubber compound "hardens", the grip on the road decreases, and the braking distance increases. Even on dry asphalt, the car becomes less controllable, and on wet or icy surfaces, the risk of skidding increases dramatically," he explained in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The expert urged to abandon trips if frosts or ice are recorded in the morning. This is especially true in the early hours, when the road may be covered with a thin crust of ice. However, if it is necessary to drive, it is recommended to avoid sudden accelerations and decelerations, keep an increased distance and smoothly enter turns.

He also advised avoiding bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas, as that's where the ice appears first and lasts the longest.

Ershov added that it is necessary to monitor tire pressure, as it can decrease with temperature fluctuations, which further impairs handling.

"If the frosts are prolonged, it is more reasonable to temporarily return to winter tires. It's safer than taking risks every day. Many people focus only on daytime temperature. But the key factor is the morning and night values," the expert concluded.

Earlier that day, Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos Weather center, reported that the snow cover in Moscow on April 29 was 7 cm, which is a new daily record for the last 90 years.

In turn, Anton Shaparin, vice-president of the National Automobile Union, recommended that motorists refrain from traveling by private transport during the April snowfall. 360.ru .

The Traffic Management Center (TSODD) said that drivers in the capital should refrain from traveling by private car if weather conditions worsen, the Moscow City News agency reports.
