Assembly of Exeed cars may be moved from the Moscow region
The production of Chinese Exeed cars from the former Mercedes-Benz plant in Esipov near Moscow may be transferred to the AGR holding plant in Shushary, St. Petersburg. This was reported by Vedomosti on April 29, citing its sources.
According to an interlocutor in a large dealer holding company, Exeed is currently forming a joint venture with AGR to organize assembly at the site in Shushary. This is a factory that used to belong to American GM, was later bought out by Hyundai, and now has been transferred to AGR.
According to the sources of the publication, the Chinese side expected the partner to submit documents to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the inclusion of Exeed in the special investment contract (SPIC) concluded with Mercedes-Benz in 2019, but this did not happen. The presence of a SPIC allows you to apply for subsidies for recycling, public procurement and participation in demand support programs. According to the analytical agency Autostat, in 2024-2025, 16.4 thousand Exeed cars were produced in Esipov, including VX, TXL and RX crossovers.
It is noted that AGR Holding continues to consolidate the production of Chery brand cars at its facilities. In particular, this year, crossovers of the new Russian brand Jeland based on models of the Chinese Jaecoo, which is part of the Chery concern, began to be produced at the former GM site. And in Kaluga, production of Tenet cars began last year, which are also based on models of the Chinese brand.
In Russia, the production of a new full-cycle crossover of the Russian brand Tenet will be launched on the assembly line of the AGR holding plant in Kaluga. As specified on April 28, the new product was named T4L. Judging by the images, the T4L is a variation of the Chery Tiggo mid-size crossover of the seventh series, and it is also similar in size and equipment.
