The priest named the main memorial day in May.
The Ecumenical Trinity Parents' Saturday this year falls on May 30 and is traditionally celebrated on the eve of the feast of Pentecost. This day occupies a special place in the Orthodox calendar as one of the main days for commemorating the dead. This was announced by Priest Ilya Savastyanov in an interview with Izvestia.
"The Ecumenical Trinity Saturday is celebrated on May 30, on the eve of the feast of Pentecost, on which the Church commemorates all deceased Orthodox Christians. This is generally one of the most important days for commemorating the dead in the Orthodox calendar," he said.
The priest recalled that on May 9, funeral services are also served for those who died during the Great Patriotic War.
According to him, the most important thing these days is prayer for the repose of loved ones, so liturgies with prayers for the repose and memorial services are served in churches. And in the event that Christians do not have the opportunity to visit the temple, they can pray at the cemetery and at home for the deceased.
The priest, head of the youth department of the Stavropol Diocese, Alvian Tkhelidze, said on April 26 that Myrrh-bearing Women's Day, celebrated on the second Sunday after Easter, is traditionally considered a time of rest and prayer.
