Nabiullina called cryptocurrency a risky and volatile asset
The Central Bank of Russia still classifies cryptocurrencies as risky assets. This was announced on April 28 by the head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, at the Alfa Summit.
"We believe that the cryptocurrency asset is volatile, <...> risky, <...> subject to sanctions. <...> Investors, if they invest in it, should understand what they can lose <... I have lost part of my investments, so the attitude towards this asset has not changed much," she said.
In addition, he opposes the use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment in the country. Nabiullina explained that Russia has a single currency, the ruble, and maintaining the unity of monetary circulation is a priority.
At the same time, according to her, the regulator expressed its readiness to introduce comprehensive regulation of this market. The head of the Central Bank attributed this to the growing demand from bona fide market participants and the increased use of digital assets for money laundering and other criminal purposes. In her opinion, the new rules should delineate these areas and ensure an effective fight against illegal operations.
Alexey Mokrov, an expert on financial markets and founder of CryptoBotPro LLC, said on April 25 that it is important for investors to distinguish stable market trends from financial bubbles, since even promising technologies do not protect against losses. According to him, there are two realities in the crypto market at the same time — technological and speculative.
