Coffee is not a medicinal product, but acts as a food stimulant with an individual effect on the body. Maria Todorova, a neuropsychologist, family and child psychologist, told Izvestia about this on April 27.

The specialist explained that the main effect of coffee is related to the effect of caffeine on the brain. It blocks adenosine receptors, which reduces the feeling of fatigue and increases alertness.

"In simple terms, coffee temporarily masks fatigue. Therefore, after a brief rise, a recession may occur, especially if a person does not get enough sleep, is overloaded or drinks coffee regularly in large quantities," Todorova noted.

According to her, at the same time, caffeine can affect the heart rate and increase the overall arousal of the body.

Todorova added that coffee with and without caffeine has different effects. Caffeinated coffee has a more pronounced stimulating effect, while a decaffeinated drink retains some of the positive effects due to taste, habit, and the substances contained in the beans.

According to the expert, coffee can subjectively improve mood and reduce stress levels in some people, creating a sense of comfort and involvement in activities. However, the expert stressed that coffee should not be used as a treatment for anxiety, depression or emotional burnout, as its effect is limited and does not replace professional help.

Valeria Bonadykova, a cardiologist at the Scandinavian Health Center, explained how coffee is related to heart health. According to the cardiologist, if you drink too much of this drink, it can cause a rapid pulse, a feeling of heart failure and sleep problems. Bonadykova clarified that unpleasant effects appear more often if a person drinks coffee irregularly, but in large portions.
