- The study showed an increase in the priority of housing over vacations among Russians
With the onset of spring, many citizens traditionally begin planning summer vacations, but more and more often the vacation format gives way to longer-term financial decisions. According to a study by the development company Marmax, 88% of Russians surveyed are ready to give up a trip to the coast in order to buy an apartment or increase the initial payment. The survey data was reviewed by Izvestia on April 28.
A similar trend is associated with the redistribution of family budgets in favor of long-term goals. Thus, 66% of the survey participants consider the purchase of real estate in 2026 as an investment in the future, while only 34% prefer a vacation this year.
Half of the respondents said that canceling a summer trip helps them save up for a down payment faster. Another third of the respondents are seeking to change their rented housing to their own. About 18% had already planned to move and decided to devote all their resources to solving the housing issue. In addition, 39% of Russians are ready to postpone their vacation for the sake of favorable purchase conditions, for example, if there are installments or special promotions from developers.
The market situation also influences the decisions of buyers. About 20% of respondents are afraid of a further rise in real estate prices and are trying to fix the cost of housing right now. At the same time, for 26%, the presence of a developed internal infrastructure of residential complexes remains an important factor.
Despite the redistribution of the budget, Russians do not completely abandon recreation. Almost half of the respondents plan to spend the summer outside the city, a third plan to go on short trips around Russia, and 22% prefer an urban leisure format, including walks in parks, on embankments and in public spaces.
Head of the analytical center "Dom.On March 2, Mikhail Goldberg announced that this year the average price increase for Russian new buildings could be 10%. The specialist drew attention to the uneven dynamics of the real estate market by region. For example, in large cities like Moscow, housing prices are rising faster than the national average.
