- The media reported on Brigitte Macron's dissatisfaction with life at the Elysee Palace
On April 26, French First Lady Brigitte Macron spoke about the intense sadness she had felt during her years at the Elysee Palace.
"Sometimes it's hard for me to see the light at the end of the tunnel. <...> I sometimes fall into pessimism like never before," the first lady admitted in an interview with La Tribune.
Macron noted that it is not easy for her to cope with harassment on the Internet and rumors that she is transgender (the LGBT movement is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) had a very strong impact on her and her entourage.
According to Macron, writing down her thoughts in a personal diary helps her.
"I used to have a normal life: kids, work, ups and downs, like everyone else. And here, a decade has passed so quickly. These years have been so intense. I saw the darkness of this world, the stupidity, the malice. Sometimes I feel so sad like never before," said the wife of the French leader.
On January 5, a Paris court found 10 people guilty in the case of spreading fakes about the first lady. For example, Aurelien Poirson-Atlan was sentenced to eight months in prison with a suspended sentence for a series of posts on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The Financial Times newspaper reported in July 2025 that French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife filed a defamation lawsuit against journalist Candice Owens, who claimed that the first lady of France was a man. According to the newspaper, the 218-page lawsuit alleges that the journalist published "ridiculous, defamatory and far-fetched fictions."
