Orban gave up his seat in the Hungarian parliament and remained the leader of Fidesz
Former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban resigned from his seat in the Hungarian parliament, but remained the leader of the Fidesz party. He stated this on April 25 in a video message posted on Facebook (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
"The mandate that I received as the leader of the Fidesz–CDNP list is actually a parliamentary mandate of Fidesz, so I decided to return it. Now I am needed not in parliament, but in the reorganization of the national camp," the politician said.
He added that Fidesz will be engaged in updating the parliamentary faction and protecting the party's communities.
Hungarian Prime Minister-elect Peter Magyar announced his party's victory in the Hungarian parliamentary elections on April 12. On April 14, local residents disapproved of the enthusiastic reaction of the West to the party's victory. It was noted that the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton voiced joyful comments on the occasion of the victory.
The National Electoral Bureau (NVI), after processing 100% of the votes on April 18, reported that following the results of the elections to the Hungarian parliament, the Tisa party won 141 out of 199 seats, the Fidesz party - 52 seats. When allocating seats according to party lists, Tisa has 45 seats, Fidesz has 42. The remaining six seats went to the far-right Nasha Rodina party.
