The ban on Russian gas is now inappropriate due to the problems with gas and oil supplies to Europe that have arisen in connection with the conflict in the Middle East. Gunnar Lindemann, a deputy from the Alternative for Germany party, told Izvestia on April 25.

"Now talking about demonizing Russian gas or Russian oil and refusing to purchase them is the wrong way," he said.

Lindemann noted that due to the numerous mistakes of the European Union (EU), including the German government, there was a statement by French President Macron that everyone was allegedly conspiring against Europe. The MP is sure that the EU and Germany have "put themselves on the sidelines." He believes that the countries could have continued to buy fuel from Russia, but they themselves terminated the agreements and opposed the Russian Federation.

The MP also clarified that the EU does not protect its interests from the United States. He stressed that a lot was missed in the negotiations in the field of tariffs and economic policy.

Lindemann stressed that blaming China, Russia and the United States now is "just a cheap trick." He believes that Europe itself is to blame for the situation, and above all Germany.

European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen said at a press conference in Brussels on April 22 that the European Commission (EC) demands that the European Union completely stop buying Russian gas, despite the energy crisis. Speaking about the EC's plan to combat the energy crisis, he called it a huge mistake to abandon bans on fuel imports from Russia. The official added that the EU should have gotten rid of Russian energy supplies many years ago. In his opinion, this way the countries of the association will gain more independence from other people's resources.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 12 that the EU's rejection of Russian oil and gas indicates the short-sightedness of the European leadership. At the same time, he clarified that some European leaders advocate a more pragmatic approach and the preservation of economic ties.
