The likelihood of contracting malaria persists when visiting countries in Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America. This was reported on April 25 in the press service of Rospotrebnadzor.

"Malaria is widespread in Africa, Southeast Asia and South America. When traveling to countries with tropical and subtropical climates 2-3 weeks before the intended trip, you should consult a doctor to clarify the need for prevention," RIA Novosti quoted the press service as saying.

Experts noted that in 2025, Russia developed and registered the first domestic rapid test to detect this disease. The system is capable of detecting all four types of the infectious agent. The ministry stressed that the disease is treatable with timely diagnosis. Despite the fact that Russia is a malaria-free country, doctors record imported cases every year.

"During your stay in tropical countries and for 3 years after your return, if the temperature rises, you should immediately consult a doctor and inform him that you were in a malaria—affected country," the press service said.

In endemic regions, experts recommend using repellents, wearing closed clothing, treating rooms, and avoiding wetlands.

On March 20, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, at an expanded meeting of the department's board, said that Russia should be prepared for a sharp increase in epidemiological risks against the background of the global situation. She added that in 2025, the agency monitored the situation in the world and Russia on cholera, plague, monkeypox, malaria and other dangerous infectious diseases.
