Trump announced the prevention of the appearance of nuclear weapons in Iran
On April 23, US President Donald Trump announced that he intends to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, even if this will result in an increase in world oil prices to $200 per barrel.
The Head of state acknowledged that U.S. citizens should expect high gasoline prices to remain in the near future. In response to a question about whether he would be satisfied with the rise in oil prices to $200 per barrel, Trump emphasized the priority of security issues.
"I think there is nothing worse than the destruction of one, two or three of your cities with nuclear weapons. I think there is nothing worse than the destruction of the Middle East, including Israel, with the help of nuclear weapons. I think there is nothing worse than an attack on Europe with missiles capable of reaching Europe," the president said during a conversation with reporters at the White House.
The Washington Post reported on April 22 that Trump may be forced to conclude a peace agreement with Tehran based on the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA) of the former head of the White House, Barack Obama, from which Washington later withdrew. Earlier, Trump and other Republicans criticized the 2015 agreement for transferring $1.7 billion to Iran as a settlement to a long-standing business dispute. Now, the Trump administration is considering the possibility of unfreezing $20 billion, which is partly revenue from the sale of Iranian oil.
