Outgoing Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjarto explained his policy towards Russia
Peter Szijjarto, the outgoing head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on April 23 that he had no regrets about building normal relations with Russia.
"I have always strived for Hungary to maintain pragmatic relations with Russia, which are beneficial for Hungary and the Hungarian people, which benefit Hungary and Hungarians," he said in an interview with the Telex news portal.
The diplomat stressed that thanks to this approach, the country was able to purchase energy resources at a lower cost.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said on April 22 that Moscow would maintain normal relations with Budapest, despite the possible change of the Hungarian government. According to him, Hungary depends on a number of factors, including the supply of Russian energy resources and cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.
