Choosing cash is not only related to anxiety, but also to habits, life experience, and a sense of control over spending. Olga Kushnareva, a family psychologist and psychotherapist, told Izvestia about this on April 22.

"Cash gives you the feeling that money is always at hand and does not depend on external conditions — failures, blockages, technical problems. This reduces internal tension, especially in a situation of uncertainty, when it is important for a person to feel that he can use his resources at any moment," she said.

According to the expert, for many people, especially older generations, cash remains a familiar and understandable way of handling money. Digital services and online banking are perceived as a complex and not completely transparent environment, which increases trust in physical money.

The expert emphasized that a sense of control also plays an important role. When using cash, a person keeps better track of their expenses, because they see the real amount of money and feel the moment of spending. In the case of non-cash payments, this effect is reduced, which can contribute to impulsive purchases.

She added that financial behavior is related to personal characteristics: more anxious people are more likely to prefer to have a cash reserve, while those prone to spontaneity are more likely to switch to non-cash payments.

"As a result, the choice between cash and non—cash money is not only about convenience, but also about a combination of habit, the level of trust in the system, personal experience, and how a person can manage their finances more calmly and clearly," Kushnareva said.

Psychologist Alexandra Grazhdanov said on April 13 that credit anxiety is associated not only with worries about money, but also with a sense of loss of control, stability and security. According to the expert, unlike rational financial planning, such anxiety can capture attention and affect daily life. It manifests itself in constant internal tension, obsessive thoughts about debts, scrolling through negative scenarios, as well as in sleep disorders, concentration and bodily discomfort.
