Gale force winds and waves up to 9 m high are forecast in the Bering Sea. This was announced on April 22 in the press service of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Kamchatka Territory.
"The storm warning will become effective on the evening of April 22. Dangerous sea waves with a height of 8-9 m are also expected in subdistricts 11293, 11294 (the Bering Sea area adjacent to the coast of the Aleutian District), 11312 (the Aleutian District)," the press service said in a statement.
It is specified that the phenomenon will persist until the morning of April 23. In addition, the Ministry of Emergency Situations recommended that the skippers take the necessary precautions.
On April 21, the Kola branch of the Federal Research Center "Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences" (KOF) reported that a magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred in the Avacha Bay off the coast of Kamchatka. The epicenter of the seismic event was located 70 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
