- The WSJ reported on Hegseth's resentment over Driscoll's appointment as a negotiator for Ukraine
Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth expressed dissatisfaction with US President Donald Trump's decision to appoint Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll as a negotiator for Ukraine. This was reported on April 19 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
According to the newspaper's sources, Hegseth insisted on Driscoll's removal from the negotiation process, pointing to his lower position in the hierarchy of the military leadership. Shortly after, Driscoll was indeed sidelined from the discussions, and his meetings with the press were canceled.
It is noted that the very appointment of the Minister of the Army to the role of negotiator caused confusion in the Pentagon. The main tasks of the head of this department are focused on training and equipping troops, and not on solving issues of international diplomacy and military planning.
The Washington Post reported that Driscoll does not intend to leave the post after quarrels with Hegseth. The authors of the material noted that earlier there was a sudden resignation of a high-ranking officer of the American army, General Randy George and two other high-ranking military personnel.
