Trump allowed a meeting with the Iranian leadership after progress in negotiations
US President Donald Trump has announced that he is ready to meet with senior Iranian leaders in the event of a breakthrough in peace talks. He stated this in an interview with the New York Post (NYP) on April 20.
"We have to negotiate. So I guess no one is playing games at the moment. <...> I have no problem meeting them. If they want to meet, and we have very competent people, but I have no problem meeting with them," the American leader said.
According to him, Vice President Jay Dee Vance, along with the American delegation (special envoy of the President Steve Witkoff and adviser, son-in-law of the American leader Jared Kushner) has already flown to Pakistan to participate in the next round of negotiations with Iran.
On April 19, Tasnim news agency learned that Tehran would not send its representatives to Islamabad as long as the American naval forces block the Strait of Hormuz. It was clarified that the ongoing dialogue between the American and Iranian sides, supported through a Pakistani intermediary, had failed due to Washington's excessive demands.
On the same day, Trump announced that if Iran refuses to accept the draft of a "fair" American peace agreement, it will destroy all bridges and power plants in the country. After that, in his opinion, the Islamic Republic will "easily fall."
