Sergei Basalaev, who shot dead police officers in the Orenburg region, was taken into custody. This was reported on April 18 by the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia.

"The military investigative bodies of the Russian Investigative Committee are investigating a criminal case against Private Sergei Basalaev," the MAX messenger says.

According to the agency, the decision was made at the request of a military investigator. Currently, investigative actions are continuing to establish all the circumstances of the incident.

The official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Irina Volk, announced on the same day that law enforcement agencies had detained an attacker who shot at police officers near Orenburg. Later, footage of the criminal's arrest was published.

On April 16, a shootout took place in the Orenburg region during the arrest of an attacker. As a result of the incident, senior police Lieutenant Nikita Gnusin was killed, and three other officers were injured. The murdered law enforcement officer turned 28 on the day of the tragedy. A criminal case was opened into the attack on the security forces.
