The International Court of Justice has become the arena of a "legal war". Its jurisdiction is being abused to make absurd accusations against the Russian Federation. This was announced on April 17 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"Unfortunately, the [International] Court has recently become the scene of a 'legal war.' Its jurisdiction is being blatantly abused to make obviously absurd claims against Russia," the agency's official website quotes her as saying.

The diplomat noted that a number of other multipolar countries, including Russia's allies, were also under attack. At the same time, Western states are massively interfering in judicial proceedings. In particular, 33 countries entered into the case of Russia and Ukraine under the Genocide Convention, allegedly as neutral "third parties."

"But in reality — on the side of Kiev. This practice is vicious and even forced the [International] Court to change its own rules," Zakharova stressed.

At the same time, she added that the relevant attempts failed, since the Court recognized that the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) were not "terrorist organizations."

"In the case of the Genocide Convention, Ukraine itself found itself in the dock in connection with the genocide committed by the Kiev regime and its Nazi henchmen in Donbass," the diplomat said.

In addition, as the diplomat pointed out, Ukraine and the Baltic states were sued for discrimination against Russians and Russian speakers.

Yulia Mendel, the former press secretary of Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, said yesterday that the plans of Western countries against Russia and its president Vladimir Putin had failed. At the same time, she stressed that peace is important for Ukraine and this is the only goal that the West should strive for.

Zakharova said on the same day that Europe had inflicted a strategic defeat on itself by imposing sanctions against Russia. According to her, sanctions bypassing the UN Security Council (SC) are illegitimate. At the same time, during the restrictions, the state itself did not take retaliatory measures that could indicate the country's "aggression" against other countries or the desire of the Russian Federation to wage trade wars.
