Trump declined potential assistance to Italy if necessary
The United States will not come to Italy's aid when the country needs it. On April 16, American President Donald Trump wrote about this in his Truth Social network.
"Italy did not come to our aid, and we will not come to its aid," the US leader said in a statement.
This is how Trump commented on the publication of The Guardian newspaper, according to which Italy denied America access to its Sigonella military base on the island of Sicily.
The Financial Times newspaper reported on April 10 that Trump lost his temper at a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte over the alliance's refusal to assist in a military operation against Iran. As specified, he was unhappy with the refusal of France, Spain and Italy to provide access to military bases.
On April 1, the US president announced that he was seriously considering the US withdrawal from NATO after the alliance refused to help in the conflict with Iran.
