- The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed its principled support for the ceasefire in Iran
Russia supports a cease-fire in the Iranian conflict, which must be observed within the initially agreed framework. This was announced on April 16 by the Russian Foreign Ministry following a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko and Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali.
"The Russian side has confirmed its principled support for the ceasefire, which must be respected within the initially agreed framework. The importance of resolving existing contradictions through political means and continuing negotiation efforts aimed at de—escalation and achieving long-term and sustainable normalization of the situation was emphasized," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
The parties discussed in detail topical issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as the situation around the new large-scale crisis in the Middle East provoked by the United States and Israel. The Ministry stressed that the settlement should meet the fundamental interests of all States in the region, without exception.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on April 13 that Russia continues to be open to providing any kind services that will help de-escalate tensions around Iran.
